Bob Terrance Saunders Manager To Leader

You may or may not know that being a leader is a bit different from being a manager. A managerial role certainly comes with a number of responsibilities, but becoming a leader involves an even greater commitment. If you’re looking to move from being a manager to being a leader, there are certain skills that you will need to possess. Take a look at the following skills that you will want to hone to become an effective leader.

Creativity

Creativity is crucial when you’re trying to become a good leader. Good leaders are able to think outside the box and they know how to look for interesting solutions to problems. A creative leader won’t be afraid to experiment and look for new ways to find success. Creativity could help to inform your success as a leader and being creative also often requires being brave enough to do something different.

Empathy

Empathy is more important than you might realize. If you can’t empathize with the people you’re leading, you’re going to have a tough time being an effective leader. You need to understand where employees are coming from so that you can speak to them on their terms. Learn to work with people and try to understand them so that you can make the right decisions as a leader.

Listening Skills

Honing your listening skills is another important part of growing into a true leader. Good leaders take the time to listen to their employees. You’ll need to be able to hear and understand any concerns that they might have. If you don’t listen to employees and you only tell them what to do, they aren’t going to have a very good opinion of you.

The Will to Keep Going

The will to keep going even when times get tough isn’t something that everyone possesses. Great leaders need to be very persistent even in the face of adversity. You’re going to face challenges as a leader and sometimes you might even fail. You have to find the will within yourself to pick yourself back up while also rallying those around you to fight.
